Economist and Investment Manager with Bonham & Co. Inc. and Executive Director of The Veritas Foundation. Member of the Board of Directors of createTO, Toronto Port Lands Inc., and Build Toronto. Member of the Global Board of Directors of Human Rights Watch since 2024.
A graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Comm.) and the London School of Economics (MSc. Econ), Mark received an Honourary Degree in Law from the Toronto Metropolitan University.
Mark was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions to academics, business, and philanthropy.
He founded two of Canada’s largest mutual fund management companies – BPI Financial Corporation, and Strategic Value Corporation. The Financial Times of London named Mark as a Top 100 Global LGBTQ Business Leader in 2017. A Senior Fellow of Massey College, University of Toronto, Mark was the AFP Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year in 2018.
Mark is the author of several books, including Between Savers and Borrower: The History of the Canadian Financial Intermediary Industry, 1900 to 2022 (2026), Trade-Offs: The History of Canada-U.S. Trade Negotiations (2019), and 150 Years of Canadian Business History (2017).
Mark is a philanthropist and activist in the LGBTQ+ communities including as the benefactor of the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto, and as Founder and Managing Editor of QueerBio.com, the online biographical website for the global LGBTQ+ community.
